Program
A panel discussion to share with the Forum’s members the importance of the Washington University School of Medicine’s Neurosciences Research Building. Forum members will hear from the panel about their role in planning for, designing and building this important project. Forum members Erin Valentine and Maggie Bailey will moderate the discussion.

Mariah Harris
Director Space Programming
Washington University School of Medicine
Mariah Harris is the Director of Space Programming at Washington University's School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. In this role, she is responsible for space guidelines, planning standards, process and templates, utilization studies, and analytics for the physical space on the medical campus. Mariah also serves as the primary planner for new laboratory buildings and major lab renovations, including the University's new 10-storey/609,000 BGSF Neuroscience Research Building, accommodating 90 research teams and 700 FTEs when Phase 1 opens in July 2023. She participated in the project's programming and laboratory allocation phase while confirming bi-annually until occupancy the research teams' FTE actuals remain within the baseline program.
Before joining WashU in 2017, Mariah was a Senior Planner at the City University of New York for 12 years. She earned her BA in architecture from Kansas State University and recently obtained the American Institute of Certified Planners credential from the American Planning Association.
Andy Poirot

As Project Director for McCarthy Building Companies, Andy Poirot oversees construction performance and works closely with project teams. An experienced civil engineering and construction professional, he is committed to building high-performing teams and creating long-lasting relationships with clients, designers and trade partners. Since joining McCarthy in 2004, Andy has worked closely with project teams, overseeing operations to ensure an exceptional client experience. From early in the design phase through completion and beyond, he supports the McCarthy safety culture while overseeing quality management, contracts, schedule and budget management, and
overall construction performance. Andy has worked on healthcare projects at several of the region’s hospitals. He also served as project director on the Washington University School of Medicine’s Neuroscience Research Building and the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Museum of Westward Expansion and Visitor Center project at the Gateway Arch in downtown St. Louis. Andy graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a degree in Civil Engineering. He is active in the Southern Illinois Builders Association and the Southern Illinois Chapter for Healthcare Engineering. He and his wife have two children and reside in Freeburg, Ill, where he volunteers as a baseball and soccer coach and spends time with his family enjoying snowboarding, hunting, fishing and hiking.

Trevor has dedicated his career to planning and designing environments which support scientific inquiry, discovery and innovation. He is a recognized expert in the social, physical, and technical characteristics associated with innovative learning and research within academic, corporate and government organizations. With this expertise, he leads a collaborative approach between the client’s key stakeholders and design team culminating in creative solutions unique to the culture, values, and project requirements.
