Join us for St. Louis Forum's Annual Meeting! This year we'll review the 2025-26 fiscal year, share what to expect in 2026-27, and will hold board member elections over lunch with plenty of time for networking and socializing.

Program Description

St. Louis County Library Foundation and University of Missouri-St. Louis Present:
University of Missouri-St. Louis Chancellor Emerita Blanche M. Touhill
Author of “The History of the University of Missouri-St. Louis: 1983-2003”

Blanche M. Touhill is chancellor emerita and professor emerita of history and education at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. As chancellor from 1991 to 2002, she greatly expanded academic programs and centers at the university, built endowed and distinguished teaching professorships, and added acres of land and several new buildings and programs to the campus. Under her leadership, a new student center and new performing arts center were built, the latter of which bears her name.

Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Program Description

This program will focus on pressing issues related to the current state of environmental justice and safety, with consideration of St. Louis, women, families, and the broader community.

For example, did you know that St Louis has considerable manufacturing and has a major superfund site, has many old buildings and housing which pose environmental hazards? How will our region explore and navigate new opportunities ensuring that all environmental decisions are made with public health, equity, transparency and meaningful community engagement at the forefront?

Join us to learn from expert guest panelists who will share pertinent information on a variety of pressing issues from their professional, industry and nonprofit organization perspectives, along with additional insights on how individuals can advocate for their rights to achieve fair and more balanced outcomes (short-term and long-term).

The program will include breakout sessions, providing attendees with the opportunity to further explore the information presented, engage in meaningful dialogue, and develop key questions to inform the panel discussion and convening.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Historian Marcia Chatelain, Author of “How Bright the Path Grows: The Untold Story of the Women Who Made the March on Washington"

In Conversation with Sowande’ Mustakeem, Washington University Department of History and Department of African & African American Studies

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marcia Chatelain shares the little-known story of the pioneering Black women artists and activists at the 1963 March on Washington. There is no shortage of footage immortalizing the men who spoke in front of the 250,000 people gathered beneath the Lincoln Memorial to call for an end to segregation. Chatelain weaves a gleaming group portrait of the women. Among this cohort were several household names: vaudeville icon Josephine Baker; civil rights activist Rosa Parks, gospel legend Mahalia Jackson, and Daisy Bates, champion of the Little Rock Nine. But many were relative unknowns. “How Bright the Path Grows” renders the lives of thirteen Black women visionaries—some famous, others soon to be.

Program Description

Step behind the scenes and experience one of St. Louis' most iconic landmarks in a unique and exclusive way. Join us on Wednesday, November 18, for a light breakfast, an informative presentation, and a guided tour showcasing the exciting renovations of the Historic Old Courthouse. The morning will begin at the Gateway Arch Park Foundation office, where guests will enjoy breakfast and learn about the preservation and transformation of this treasured landmark. Following the presentation, members will be escorted on a special guided tour of the Old Courthouse renovation project, offering a rare look at the work done to preserve its rich history. Special thank you to our Forum member Andi Blaylock for this opportunity.

Parking will be available at 701 Market Street (Peabody Building), Kiener West at 604 Pine Street, or metered street parking.

We’ll gather at COCA, a national leader in arts innovation with a mission focused on using the power of the arts to build a region that is creative, connected, and inclusive. A highlight of the event will be a brief performance from COCA’s Allegro Vocal Program -- sure to put you in a festive holiday mood!
