Event Name:
Issues Exploration Book Club-Black Is the Body: Stories from My Grandmother's Time, My Mother's Time, and Mine by Emily Bernard

Description:
What role do stories play in how we see ourselves as women and family members?  Does race impact your self-identity?  How do we articulate the ways that difference-and similarity-shape our experiences in the world?  Please read the book, then join us for a discussion and reflection on this personal text written by a Black woman navigating her roles as teacher, mom and wife in a world that often does not match her self-identity.  To ensure the conversation covers everything each participant is interested in talking about, please submit discussion questions to Natalie Self at nself@cortexstl.org prior to the event.

We will provide the greens and dressing for a salad. Please plan to bring a topping (think protein, other veggies, nuts, seeds, etc.) for a pot luck salad.  Bread and desserts are welcome too. Alcohol-free beverages will be served.
