Event Name:
How Can a Facility Deliver on a Mission?  Tour: Rung for Women VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON!

Event Type(s):
Member Events

Description:

What began as a grass roots movement to remove employment barriers and advance women in the St. Louis community, has grown in recent years to an effort to create wholistic self-sufficiency for women and their families. This hybrid (virtual/in-person) event will offer insights into the founding female leaders and mission of the organization, share insights on how it is advancing women in our community and take a peek into the design and construction of Rung’s new facility.

Rung’s commitment to women and diversity extends to their choice of design and construction partners - 48% of total project dollars went to women or minority-owned businesses. Leslie Gill, Executive Director of Rung for Women and Stacey Wehe, Managing Principal of Christner Architects, will take Forum members through this journey and dive into the unique aspects of the facility that enable it to support the organization’s mission. After the formal program, those attending in person can divide into smaller groups for physical tours of the building.

As one of three managing principals for Christner, Stacey Wehe provides marketing strategy and business development leadership across all markets that Christner serves.  In addition to her leadership role, she focuses on education and cultural projects ranging from strategic master planning to buildings for performing arts, student life, STEM and the sciences, and 21st century learning.  Working at both a regional and national level with complex teams, Stacey is involved in broad outreach and engagement with university and municipal communities. Her passion is helping mission-driven clients achieve their fullest potential through successful planning and design.  She frequently shares lessons learned at numerous national conferences.

Stacey has managed numerous award-winning projects including the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) Expansion and Renovation and Rung for Women Headquarters.

Having served in leadership capacities for several profit and non-profit organizations, Leslie Gill has been deeply involved in a wide range of social welfare issues. Before joining Rung as the organization’s president, Leslie served as the Chief Executive Officer of Annie Malone Children’s & Family Service Center.  Prior to her role at Annie Malone, Leslie served as Executive Director of College Summit, where she had multi-state responsibility for programs, fundraising, and business operations.

Leslie is a native of St. Louis, and now resides in the Central West End neighborhood with her daughter, Marley. She is distinguished alumnus of Hampton University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hampton University, as well as a Master of International Business from St. Louis University. Coupled with years of experience in executive leadership positions, Leslie is well-equipped to lead Rung and help further its mission to empower women.
