The pandemic has impacted our mental health—both societally and individually, in some shape or form. A study in the Journal of Public Economics noted a 9.5% increase in domestic violence-related 911-calls during the first five weeks of the pandemic alone. The CDC has reported increases over the last year in the prevalence of anxiety and depression as well as substance abuse and suicidal ideation. Available data shows suicide attempts hover around 1.5 to 2 times higher during Spring 2020 compared to the Spring 2019. U.S. firearm sales reached record highs during this past year. Our panel will discuss how our community is responding to our mental health needs.
